Kids Summer Library Activities

Let Live Borders Libraries help beat summer holiday boredom with some fantastic, fun activities!  All sessions are free unless otherwise stated.  Donations are always welcome and appreciated – this allows us to continue providing much loved activities for everyone in local communities.

SUMMER READING CHALLENGE
Join the Summer Reading Challenge and keep kids reading all summer long. All you need to do is read books to earn rewards, certificates and prizes. Our main challenge is suitable for ages 5 upwards. There is also a mini challenge for our younger borrowers, up to age 4.  What are you waiting for – head to your nearest library, sign up and get reading!

SUMMER BOOKBUG
We have regular sessions at many of our venues throughout July & August.  We are also excited to share that Bookbug is going on tour with summer specials at Abbotsford House, Floors Castle and The Great Tapestry of Scotland.  Head to our dedicated Bookbug page for all the info.

LEGO & DUPLO FUN
Let imaginations go wild with our popular building sessions at Hawick, Galashiels, Peebles, Eyemouth & Melrose.  All the info you need about where and when can be found on our Lego page.
Summer Crafts & Story Fun @ Galashiels Library
Join us for some fun crafting and stories. Every 1 hour session starts at 10:30, booking not required – Please note an adult must stay for the session.Tuesday 1 July – Suitable for ages 3-8

Summer Reading Challenge Drop In Crafts at Hawick Library – Monday 30 June Onwards
Come along anytime during opening hours and settle in for some crafty fun. Our craft projects have a summer reading challenge ‘Story Garden’ theme – suitable for all ages.

Hawick Library – Grandparents Storytime
Fun and friendly session exclusively for little ones and grandparents to enjoy together.  Suitable for babies, toddlers & pre-schoolers.

Summer Crafts & Scavenger Hunt, Peebles Library, Museum & Gallery – Thursday 26 June to Saturday 16 August
Pop in anytime during opening hours and take on the scavenger hunt and/or crafts – Ideal for school age kids.

Sensory Storytime @ Peebles Library, Museum & Gallery
Join us for a relaxing half hour story time session.  Exclusively for under 5’s and their grown ups. No need to book just come along.

Make a Pop-Up Book @ Peebles Library, Museum & Gallery
Thursday 17 July – 14:00-16:00 – £4 per child – Booking Essential
Take inspiration from ‘adventurous nature’ and construct a pop-up book.  Guidance and materials provided.

Wire & Found Object Workshop – Peebles Library, Museum & Gallery
Friday 1 August – 13:30-14:30 – Adults £6, Under 16’s £4. Suitable for adults and children aged 8+ – Booking Essential
Inspired by our textile art exhibition, create artwork using natural materials and wire. Find out more here.

Peebles Library, Museum & Gallery Crafty Club
Come along to our monthly making meet-up! A relaxed hour for teens and adults who is or aspires to be creative. Bring a project along to craft in company or try something different. Some materials provided.
